Writing activites update : March 2024
French version below.
English version
The Patient Daniel is currently the last story Iâve wrote and published. If I take a look back of what Iâve done so far with this hobby activity, I have mixed feelings. Globally, I like what Iâve wrote, but I know there is a lot of room for improvement. But the biggest regret I have is Iâve been too fast and should have released these stories with a longer timing. There was just one month between The Last Expedition and The Patient Daniel actually, even if Iâve worked at some moment on both. Thatâs something Iâve noticed while writing The Patient Daniel and taking a short break during the work.
I was too much enthusiast after releasing my first book I suppose.
So thatâs why Iâve decided to learn to take my time and improve my work. And thatâs currently what Iâm doing for my current work in progress, started in early February.
I canât say the title now (because it could still be matter to change), and the illustration above is one of the tentative covers Iâve made using Stable Diffusion. So far, here is what I can say about this new story :
The basic idea was to use an old legend as the main story line. The protagonists would discover which parts of this legend is true, or not, based on different points of view. One of them is Daniel as one of the main characters, because I must admit I like this one and wanted to develop him more. Especially because in The Patient Daniel, he was enduring a tough situation that didnât reflect the actual character. Here, he is telling a flashback, thatâs how the story is introduced from his side. Itâs not a direct sequel to the previous book, but there are connections. The other main characters are a new ones Iâve tried to develop from old role playing games idea, and inspired by various science fiction works Iâve enjoyed in the past, with different cultural origins.
Iâve noticed regarding this work that itâs an ambitious one for me. So far, itâs the longest story Iâve wrote with currently 16 chapters length for around 130 pages estimated. Theyâre mostly short chapters because Iâve wanted to try a narrative split into small parts assembling together. I think the story will end-up with almost 30 chapters. When Iâve started my science fiction novel author, I was persuaded that chapters must have a least a minimum of words, so I felt obligated. Eventually, I prefer a shorter split with a better rhythm allowing to develop a precise scene.
No release date expected so far. Another goal is to release both French and English versions at the same time. So there is still work to do !
Stay tuned !
Jâai Ă©galement notĂ© quâil sâagit lĂ dâun projet trĂšs ambitieux me concernant.
